Dr. Margaret Oloo has an impressive academic background, holding a Master’s Degree in Medicine (Paediatrics and Child Health). Additionally, she has enhanced her expertise with a graduate Diploma in Healthcare Management. She has also demonstrated a commitment to professional development by participating in several short courses in Governance and Human Resource Management at the Kenya School of Government (KSG). These educational qualifications reflect her dedication to both medicine and the management aspects of healthcare.Professionally, Dr. Oloo has over four decades of experience as a medical practitioner, specializing as a Consultant Paediatrician. Her extensive career includes significant leadership roles, such as serving as the Medical Superintendent for both a District and Provincial Hospital. Her experience in managing large healthcare facilities demonstrates her ability to lead complex medical institutions effectively. Currently, she serves as the Managing Director of St. Luke Medical Centre in Kisumu, a private facility she has overseen for more than 20 years, cementing her role as a leader in both the medical and business aspects of healthcare.

Beyond her professional career, Dr. Oloo has shown a strong commitment to social responsibility and community involvement. She has been a member of several Boards of Management, including those of colleges, hospitals, and schools. Notably, she served as Vice Chairperson of the Board for Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology. Additionally, her participation in committees like the Constituency Development Fund and the Constituency Development Oversight Committee for Ugunja Constituency highlights her role in shaping local development initiatives by ensuring that key community needs were prioritized and effectively addressed.

Dr. Oloo is also an active leader in various social and professional societies. She is currently the Regional President of the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) Western Kenya Branch and a member of the FKE Management Board. In her past, she was the President of the local chapter of Soroptimist International Africa Federation, an organization dedicated to improving the welfare and development of women and girls globally. Her leadership in such organizations demonstrates her passion for advocacy and community empowerment.

 

Magaga Alot – Member

Mr. MAGAGA ALOT, Kenyan writer, journalist and Corporate Strategy and Communications Specialist was born in 1949 in Ujwang’a village, Sakwa Bondo, Siaya County. His literary career started back in 1970 when his commissioned play, Heat of the Moment, was selected and staged as part of the cultural celebrations of the Inauguration of the University of Nairobi. His other publications include People and Communication in Kenya the novels, A Girl Cannot Go on Laughing All the Time; and Daughter of State. He has contributed to Perspectives on Regional Integration and Co-operation in East Africa; The Rise and Rise of East African Community; and Journey Towards Regional Integration in East Africa, among the publications that he edited or co-authored with others. Alot received his education at the Kenyatta College, Nairobi; Diploma in Journalism, University of Nairobi and MSc in Management and Organization, United States International University.

Prior to his current appointment as Member of the Board of Siaya County Public Service Board, Alot had an extensive career at national, regional and international levels: From 1972 – 1974 as reporter and editor for among others  the East African Standard,  Daily Nation and Sunday Post; Correspondent of The Times of London; Correspondent / Associate Editor of the London-based Africa and New African magazines; Correspondent of the Daily News, Dar es Salaam; and Producer/Presenter, Voice of Kenya Radio and TV; and 1975-1987 as Information Officer of the United Nations with postings to New York, Nairobi/ focal point for dissemination of information on Decolonization and struggle against Apartheid and Racial Discrimination; Addis Ababa, Geneva/OAU-UN ICARA Secretariat; and Brussels/ UN Consultant and Special Assistant to the Secretary General, African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group.

Subsequently, Alot served as Public Relations Manager of Kenya Commercial Bank (1987-1997); Head of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs of the East African Community (EAC), Arusha, Tanzania, 1987 -2009 (including major assignments as EAC Representative in the Dialogues and Conference on the AU and New Strategies for Development in Africa; Delegate to the Blair Commission; Delegate to the Steering Committee of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region) ; EU Expert to the EAC on Regional Integration (2009-2012); Founder Director, Parchment Communications; and USAID Consultant on the development of the EAC Lake Victoria Basin Outreach and Communication Strategy (2014-2015).
